What do we need to change about the Indian Education System?
Swami Vivekananda thoughts
on education were:
Education is not
the amount of information that we put into your brain and runs riot there,
undigested, all your life. We must have life building, man making, and
character making assimilation of ideas.
Indian Education has been a problem in our country and lack
of it has been blamed for all sorts of evil for hundreds of years. Although Indian
people are very talented but it need proper guidance to go with proper flow.
We have established IITs, IIMs, law schools and other
institutions of excellence; students now routinely score 90% marks so that even
students with 90+ percentage find it difficult to get into the colleges of
their choice; but we do more of the same old stuff.
Rote learning still plagues our system, students study only
to score marks in exams, and sometimes to crack exams like IIT JEE, AIIMS or
CLAT. The colonial masters introduced education systems in India to create
clerks and civil servants, and we have not deviated much from that pattern till
today. If once the youngsters prepared masse for civil services and bank officer’s
exams, they now prepare to become engineers. If there are a few centers of
educational excellence, for each of those there are thousands of mediocre and
terrible schools, colleges and now even universities that do not meet even
minimum standards. If things have changed a little bit somewhere, elsewhere
things have sunk into further inertia, corruption and lack of ambition.
Creating a few more schools or allowing hundreds of colleges
and private universities to mushroom is not going to solve the crisis of
education in India. And a crisis it is – we are in a country where people are
spending their parent’s life savings and borrowed money on education – and even
then not getting standard education, and struggling to find employment of their
choice. In this country, millions of students are victim of an unrealistic,
pointless, mindless rat race. The mind numbing competition and rote learning do
not only crush the creativity and originality of millions of Indian students
every year, it also drives brilliant students to commit suicide.
We also live in a
country where the people see education as the means of climbing the social and
economic ladder. If the education system is failing – then it is certainly not
due to lack of demand for good education, or because a market for education
does not exist.
Education system in India is failing because of more intrinsic
reasons. There are systemic faults that do not let our demand for good
education translate into a great marketplace with excellent education services
What actually main reasons behind failure in Indian education
system , Indian students explore more when they go to foreign why not in own
country , why maximum brain drain is happening even now also . There are many
question which may seems very less but the answer is big or beyond your expectations,
which need to be solve as soon as possible. India is growing even the mind-set
of people as well as per capita income too but in the same time our educational
system should be modified at least some of our Indian educational institute
should be in TOP 50 WORLD RANK, whereas none of our Indian educational
institute is available except 1 or 2 IIT and IIMS. Why, same students or students
with less marks but in MIT do excellence job, why not here.
Where we lack, is the lack is in our mind-set or educational system or old pattern.
Where we lack, is the lack is in our mind-set or educational system or old pattern.
We should go into the root to start change -
School-level
changes:
Most of the schools like CBSE MEDIUM , most of the answers
are within 150 -200 words answer , so that students mug up the possible
important questions and answers and score 90-99.99 % marks , that's why it's easy to secure good marks , minimum 80% even if you are a average student , so mug up is the old as
well as same new trend in some medium . I am not saying getting 90% is easier but it
also indirectly helps them to get CBSE PMT MEDICAL Exam too those who are from CBSE board as
their own board helps them , whereas ICSE is quit tough and state board have
their own systems . As I am belongs to state board our math is good as compare to
CBSE OR ICSE board whereas we are poor in science, that’s why maximum state
board students crack engineering easily due to strong in math from childhood
days as their base is strong.
So here I just want to say, never ever let children to mug up all. Now I have seen many students who secured 80-90 or above marks in school but drastically fail in other sectors as their school mug up system helped them but in later on stage also it help them how to write in structural format whereas a state board student don’t make any structural format of anything when it comes to writing.

Yes, we're making children memorize the words in the books,
we're not making them understand the basics. The current education system lacks
practicality and relevance. Knowledge cannot always be measured by way of a
kid's score on a certain unit test. There should be more focus on learning than
on marks. We should follow , some countries where now tuition and school exams
just removed from system so that students will learn more and do practical and
less stress which can help them in future to take better decision about their
career choices.
(Doubt on state board ask the students of state board and their writing pattern in 2008 time as now government of odisha changed it's writing pattern to syllabus , due to high competition with CBSE medium and mindset of people on state board medium even though you are from very good state board school )

A better
evaluation system
When we're educating a child, we're shaping him/her as a
person. Their personalities have to be chiseled carefully to prepare them for
what lies ahead. You cannot judge how 'bright' a student is, only on the basis
of the answer sheets as this is the thing mostly happen in everywhere
else.
Extracurricular activities are important, and this isn't a
quixotic notion. They help develop communication skills, leadership qualities, and
team-work. They improve our strategic planning abilities, improve our
confidence and help us analyse our strengths and weaknesses. We should built up
a student as per their strength and weakness and interest of education. I think
by the age of 14-15 a child is fully growth mind-set about his/her career plan
still they are confuse. So in this state better do a test where they can choose
where they should go in their next move, I mean what they’ll do or which career
they’ll choose in their future. It’ll be better for them and their future.
Everyone’s mind may looks similar but their way of thinking and the way they do
the work is different.
Reforms in
Higher Education
Higher education is a kind of dramatic in our country , where
we have 1000s of private colleges whereas less good government colleges and
educational system to all facilities a child should get during this vital
period is lack as private institutes have less money whereas in government
sector corruption happens and sometimes not so much interested too.
1. Several universities are filled with teachers, who are not
qualified enough
2. The teachers who are qualified, get discouraged due to a meagre
salary,
And well, lack of
respect
Both the scenarios are dangerous.
And some are unaffiliated universities
The education business is booming now a days where as quality
is education is very less.
Research
In this filed INDIA is in poor state, Professors are invited
from the abroad colleges to teach, while the teachers in India are hardly
involved in meaningful research.
These are the major reason why 'Brain Drain' happens.
India needs a strong research base, but most of our
universities are starving for funds. Private organizations should be encouraged
to invest in, and support the education system. Some companies are already
willing to do so, like Microsoft,
L&T and PWC.
The present education system leaves behind the millions of
average children with an incredible potential, but who are paralyzed by lack of
finances. There are several drop-out cases in the rural areas.
Indian education system must be re-invented to bring about
any change at the grass root level.
So to make India educationally better , we have to start from
grass root level , bringing foreign investors or strong political parties are
worthless , you’re your own people are not so educated enough , even though
they are capable too . So now my suggestion is -
Children have to be prepared for life, not for an exam.
Children have to be prepared for life, not for an exam.
Focus on skill based education
“Give a man a fish and
you feed him one day, teach him how to catch fishes and you feed him for a
lifetime.” So skill is like that, built
up it when you are in early stage, in old age it is just waste of time. I
believe that if you teach a man a skill, you enable him for a lifetime.
Knowledge is largely forgotten after the semester exam is over. Still, year
after year Indian students focus on cramming information. The best crammers are
rewarded by the system. This is one of the fundamental flaws of our education
system.
Reward creativity, original thinking, research and innovation
Our education system rarely rewards what deserves highest
academic. Deviance is discouraged. Risk taking is mocked. Our testing and
marking systems need to be built to recognize original contributions, in form
of creativity, problem solving, valuable original research and innovation. If
we could do this successfully Indian education system would have changed
overnight.
Memorizing is no learning; the biggest flaw in our education
system is perhaps that it incentives memorizing above originality.
Implement massive technology infrastructure for education
India needs to embrace internet and technology if it has to
teach all of its huge population, the majority of which is located in remote
villages. Now that we have computers and internet, it makes sense to invest in
technological infrastructure that will make access to knowledge easier than
ever. Instead of focusing on outdated models of brick and mortar colleges and
universities, we need to create educational delivery mechanisms that can
actually take the wealth of human knowledge to the masses.
Re-define the purpose of the education system
The goal of our new education system should be to create
entrepreneurs, innovators, artists, scientists, thinkers and writers who can
establish the foundation of a knowledge based economy rather than the
low-quality service provider nation that we are turning into.
Make reservation irrelevant
We have reservation in education today because education is
not available universally. Education has to be rationed. This is not a long
–term solution. If we want to emerge as a country build on a knowledge economy,
driven by highly educated people – we need to make good education so
universally available that reservation will lose its meaning.
I originally born in 1991 in the month of June 15th,
10.45 AM (of course I can’t born early as my parents married by 1989 June 27th https://www.instagram.com/p/BG9MvVrBOdK/ ).
I completed my standard 5th by year 2000 so here you can analyse,
how fast I capture the learning even I completed my education with some sort of
good marks as per Oriya medium standard. My childhood days were full of confusion
and I face ups and down within that period too. I didn’t study also standard 3
and 4th and directly joined in standard 5th. that was my
biggest achievement even I have name in 2 school , on school I appear my exam (even
no attendance, permanent) and another school I study due to my father’s transfer
, I usually do this till standard 5th , that’s why my friends also
laughed at me , I can manage all . As I was child and I am flexible from the beginning,
that’s my friends knows very well. That was the biggest conflict during my
childhood days. After 5th my papa got a stable job place and we finally settle
in one place and started my formal education from that time. I never seen 2nd
position in my life even I was treated as a good student. I realize that GOVERNMENT
schools or colleges are better than private as government institutes you’ll
find less partly and teachers actually don’t care anything , they treat you how
you are and how you perform that’s why I love government colleges as compare to
private . My school is CENTRAL GOVERNMENT AND MY ENGINEERING COLLEGE WAS ALSO COMES
UNDER CENTRAL GOVERNMENT DEPARTMENT.
Then I came to hostel and my dream and my way of study actually
vary from normal person. I am more like research oriented and I always write
long answers as I never ever satisfy with short answers. That was my major draw
back when I entered into KIIT that may be under ODISHA BOARD but treat not less
than ICSE board. The way of education and pattern of writing the answers. My health
was major issues, which leads to make me a poor performer.
In my life I never ever give value to marks, otherwise I could
treated as a best performer. I am a learner as well as I always have research mind-set.
That’s why till now I did many research works and I feel proud of it.
Whenever I see some children, those who are high achievers I wish
I could be if my dream as per my limit and as per my strength and as per proper guidance.
Everyone in this earth born with different minds and brain capacity, you can’t
deny this fact but we have to flexible as per the circumstance. I always have
high dreams from the very beginning of my life. even my parents spend lakh of
rupees for me , I couldn’t perform well , that’s my mistake . Why? I couldn’t
be as flexible as per the changing environment. I always go with my flow of
thinking and pattern of doing work like only research and do work seriously. I am
a time oriented girl like this many more drawbacks which may seems positive but
turn negative for me.
Now, I only pray, help me to forget my past achievements and
let me to improve in my next period. I am ready for my future, hope God also
help me now. I just want to forget my all failure which portrait me as a SLOW
PERSONALITY , WHEREAS I AM NOT OTHERWISE I CAN’T EXCEL WHEREVER I GO LIKE –>
BIO- ENGINEERING – MBA + ARTIST too , if god gives me opportunity I can
show my rest talents too .
I need
some opportunity to prove myself , that’s the only thing I beg now before my
lord as he already taste my patience through my failure and I already lost my
precious time to become an EARLY ACHIEVER but now I can’t wait to EXPLORE .
HOPE ,
GOD BLESS ME !!!
