FOOL bydiaryofmywholelife.blogspot.com -November 02, 2016 Subliminal advertising is a technique of exposing consumers to product pictures, brand names, or other marketing stimuli without the consumers having conscious awareness. Once exposed to a subliminal marketing stimulus, the consumer is believed to decode the information and act upon it without being able to acknowledge a communication stimulus. Advertising is supposed to be impactful and clever without overpowering. Advertisements have a long history of being subtle. Whether hiding a double-meaning in a logo or working some Photoshop magic, subliminal ads definitely meet the criteria of clever — and the more clever the ad, the better we feel about “getting” it — and the better we feel about the product. Win-win for advertisers! Public Advertising" began with the 1957 publication of Vance Packard's book, The Hidden Persuaders. Although Packard did not use the term "subliminal advertising," he did describe many of the new "motivational research" marketing techniques being employed to sell products in the burgeoning post-war American market. Advertisements that focused on consumers' hopes, fears, guilt, and sexuality were designed to persuade them to buy products they'd never realized they needed. Marketers who could reach into the hearts and minds of American consumers soon found consumers' wallets to be within easy grasp as well. Historical analysis or evaluation of subliminal advertisements 1943: Subliminal messages were occasionally embedded in radio, film and television programs. In an animated short featuring Daffy Duck in 1943, for example, the words “BUY BONDS” appear briefly on screen. Nobody knew whether these messages would influence people, but they figured it couldn't hurt to try. 1957: James Vicar, a market researcher, claimed that by flashing the words “Eat Popcorn” and “Drink Coca-Cola” during a movie for a fraction of a second, he significantly increased the sale of these snacks. Five years later he admitted he had faked the study. By that time, however, the public had grown concerned—and advertisers and government agencies intrigued—about the manipulative power of these messages. Late 1960s–1980s: Scientific studies throughout the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s tended to discredit the claims that subliminal messages could subtly influence behaviour. One study, for instance, showed that flashing the words “Hershey's Chocolate” on a series of slides during a lecture did not influence whether students purchased Hershey's products during a 10-day period. 1990s: Although many studies continued to discredit the claim that subliminal messages carried any psychological weight, other research started to uncover subtle effects. In one such study from 1992, participants viewed images of a person engaged in a normal daily activity. After each image, researchers quickly flashed a photograph: half the viewers saw positive, uplifting content, and half saw negative content. Those who saw negative messages reported thinking of the photographed person in a more damaging light. Early 2000s: Research continued to show that subliminal messages do influence our perceptions; the effect is just subtler than we thought. 2006: Studies have shown subliminal messages may work in advertising after all, in certain situations. For example, a 2006 study found that participants flashed an image of a brand-name drink, in this case Lipton Ice Tea, were more likely to choose that brand to quench their thirst. This association only held up, however, if participants were already thirsty. (Another provocative study showed that embedding images related to thirst in an episode of The Simpsons actually made people thirstier.) 2007: Subliminal messages may also enhance academic performance. In a 2007 study, researchers flashed students hidden words related or unrelated to intelligence, such as “talent” and “grass,” respectively, before a practice exam. Those who saw the intelligence words performed better on a midterm one to four days later. 2010–2015: Imaging studies have shown that our brain responds to subliminal messages in measurable ways. Activity levels change in the amygdala, which processes emotions, the insula (involved in conscious awareness), the hippocampus (involved in processing memories) and the visual cortex. My project work based on subliminal advertisement in consumer behavior – Based on that I am working on one of my project where I make a poster (art), logo and simple advertisement, where subliminal effect actually works. Every time I check in google or read about subliminal advertisement every time I get its negative meaning or say dual meaning like a good another is bad which mainly connect with SEX, mostly all advertisement target SEX as their subliminal advertisements either in poster or advertisements. that’s why I come up with a different meaning or can say positive campaign with positive meaning “KABHI TOH SOCH BADAL KE DEKHO”, this is my preliminary work of my project but later on I can do more on it , I am not so professional that’s why my arts are just simple sketch based , hope ! sooner I can get learn how to make cartoon advertisement so that I also can make my subliminal advertisement with good meaning but research says people attracts more towards negative ad than positive still I am trying my level best – I worked for a brand like MARLBORO, DOVE. I am against MARLBORO (not for any personal reason but as a professional way) and for DOVE. This is a general poster of a person who is smoking - Glasses are showing with cigarette , Burning money , Death Buke Marlboro Logo with death symbol - "KA" - Egyptian death symbol . "KA" symbol of death DOVE I am working for a campaign called “Real beauty” , actually that campaign motivates me to work for it - My advertize This is my ad , where I show , how barcode relates with heartbeat , I indirectly tells in Marlboro barcode is 3 steps design so I correlate with human life , early stage smoker , middle stage smoker or finally dead. Which shown in the movie ad, which is just a preliminary work as I didn’t have video editing software so I just make it for my own project understanding. These are my own work, hope you all like it. In future you can get more on it. Advertize is mind game , let the game play by you , on you and with you !!!
